Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand what Trauma Informed Practice is
  • Understand the values and principles that underlie Trauma Informed Practice
  • Understand the four principles of TIP – Recognise, Respond, avoid Re traumatisation, build Resilience
  • Consider what constitute Adverse Childhood Experiences
  • Explore the impact of ACE’s and how these contribute to the need for Trauma Informed Practice
  • Understand why Trauma Informed Practice is important for services, children and families
  • Understand what Trauma Informed Practice looks like
  • Appreciate the relevance of SAMHSA’s six key principles of a trauma informed approach
  • Recognise the positive impact of demonstrating unconditional positive regard
  • Consider how trauma affects staff
  • Understand what builds resilience and supports recovery
  • Understand secondary and vicarious trauma and how to respond to it and prevent it
  • Develop practice skills and techniques to come alongside the client in a trauma informed way .

A series of half day workshops that focus on key subjects/issues that face individuals who are new to teaching in Higher Education. The workshops will provide an opportunity to discuss experiences, share ideas and gain some information about a range of techniques and processes that may help in teaching. This programme, if completed will lead to recognition as a CMSWTP Teacher Practitioner. It can also lead to teaching qualifications with Advance HE and SEDA. After completing the training, you would need to compile a short portfolio, with our support. You can, of course, just complete the training days and gain a certificate of recognition.

Capacitated individuals residing in 24hr care and the Covid 19 Pandemic

Aim:

How can capacitated individuals residing in 24 hour care, whom are not subject to a legal framework be supported to appropriately challenge restrictions imposed by Public Health England guidance throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, what are the measures that are in place to support individuals subject to a legal framework such as DoLS and how can this be simulated for capacitated adults?

Objectives:

  • To recognise the wider impact of the PHE guidance on capacitated individuals in 24 hour care settings.
  • To uncover good practice and ways in which social workers, advocates and care providers have supported service users to positively challenge the guidance in a bid to gain personalisation.
  • To consider how the PHE guidance may be adapted to support capacitated individuals to achieve a personalised risk assessment and care approach in response to the guidance.
  • To consider how the provision of DoLS has adapted in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and how a flexible approach may be simulated for capacitated individuals in a 24 hour care setting.
  • To collate the opinions of residents, social workers and best interest assessors in relation to noted differences across service user groups and care settings.

Aim:

To explore the experiences of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic students and practitioners of social work education and practice, using a co-production, participatory framework, and make policy and practice recommendations to the CWMTP.

Objectives:

  • To engage and recruit Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic students and social work practitioners and establish a research participation group, to meet regularly (within a 6 month period) to co-produce research data on ‘The experiences of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic social work students and practitioners of social work education and practice.’
  • To adopt a Participatory Action Research (PAR) methodology underpinned by an Anti-Racist framework, to allow for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic students and social work practitioner engagement and participation.
  • To analyse data, write up and disseminate findings.
  • To make policy and practice recommendations identified by the research participation group to the CMSWTP

Aim:

What are the frontline practitioners’ experiences of increasing Care Orders at home?

Objectives:

1. To draw from statistical data of partnership authorities to emphasise the extent of the problem faced;

2. To explore with frontline social workers and team managers their experiences of Care Orders at home, including: challenges; fears/anxieties;

3. To give frontline practitioners ‘a voice’ in regards to this research area, by embedding their testimonies within the research findings;

4. To produce and publish findings that can serve as a platform to challenge this ‘troubling tendency’.
